Itinerary
Today's Sahara Desert excursion departs at 8:30 a.m. for Ouarzazate, traveling through Taroudant, well known as "The Little Marrakesh," Taliouine, and Taznakht. We will be an hour away from Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, Morocco's most famous fortress and one of its nine UNESCO World Heritage sites. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, there will be time to explore the kasbah's history, tiny paths and filming locations for international films such as Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Prince of Persia, Lawrence of Arabia, Kingdom of Heaven, and so on.
In the afternoon, a drive to the Atlas Film Studios is planned. Several Hollywood blockbusters were shot here, and the sets remain mainly intact (Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Asterix and Obelix, and Game of Thrones). There are just a few miles to the little village of Ouarzazate, where you will spend the night in a riad.
After a delicious breakfast at your accommodation, we will drive southeast via Skoura's palm groves. Then proceed to Rose Valley. Every year in May, the residents have a Rose Festival for 3 days when they sell their rose goods, which range from perfumes, rose water, oil, and creams. Then we go through Dades Valley. We come to at a viewpoint overlooking the valley to take in the incredible panorama of the Dades gorges. Then we head towards Todra Gorges, where the passage of the Todra River has carved out a Grand Canyon through the mountains, resulting in a steep red cliff-sided canyon (500 meters). Free time for lunch. You can explore the gorges and enjoy the beauty of the surface.
Our Morocco desert trip continues to Erfoud, a city known for its fossil sites and factories. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will go on a camel trek over the Erg Chebbi sand dunes to our Sahara Desert camp. The camel ride desert tour takes around 2 hours. A stop will be made for you to enjoy the magical sunset on top of a high dune, try sand boarding if desired, and take photos. Then continue to your luxury camp, where you can enjoy the Berber drums music while dancing around the campfire, under a vast open sky of stars. Dinner and overnight in the camp.
Wake up early in the morning to enjoy the lovely sunrise in the middle of the desert. Free time for breakfast. Then you return to Merzouga on camels or in a land cruiser, where your driver awaits. We spend the day to exploring the Merzouga territory. The area offers several magnificent sights, including sand dunes, wild seasonal lakes, mines, fossil locations, and fabulous oasis. Which are ideal spots for a variety of outdoor sports.
First, we begin our excursion in Merzouga by driving off-road to an ancient eyeliner mine. Then we give the nomads a visit in their handmade tent. Learn about their way of life while enjoying a cup of Berber tea. Our next stop is Khamlia village, where you can experience a type of Moroccan music called "Gnaoua", dance, and live performances. Its people are from sub-Saharan African nations such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Free time for lunch at a local restaurant. Following that, we take a walk through a palm tree area. Dinner and overnight in a Riad.
Get up early to witness the breathtaking beauty of the dawn over the Dunes. As the first waves of sunlight illuminate the sky, the landscape turns into a colorful fabric of colors and shadows, producing an extraordinary visual spectacle. After breakfast, we will depart for the Dra'a Valley, Morocco's longest and most scenic valley. Our journey will take us through Berber villages like Rissani, Alnif, Tazzarine, and N'Qob. In N'Qob, we will take a break for a delightful lunch, giving you a taste of local food and the opportunity to lose yourself in the region's charm.
In the afternoon, we'll cross the Draa River, which can run from a strong stream to a calm trickle depending on the season. The magnificence of the palm trees and the timeless beauty of the historic towns that line the river will charm you as you continue down the valley. As the evening approaches, we'll arrive in Agdez, where you may have a great meal of regional delicacies and unwind with a pleasant night's sleep, preparing you for the adventures ahead the next day.
Today, we go northwest from Agdez to Taznakht, which is famous for its magnificent Berber gardens and carpets. As we drive, we'll be introduced to beautiful surroundings and go through the renowned Bouazzer mines, engaging ourselves in a hidden and less-traveled area of Morocco. Our next road takes us west to Agadir, going via the beautiful Tizi-n-Ikhsane and Tizi-n-Tighatine passes. We'll stop for lunch at Taliouine, Morocco's saffron-growing heartland. You will get the opportunity to visit a wonderful museum dedicated to the art of saffron farming.
Later in the afternoon, we continue our drive to Taroudant, along the often-dry Souss River and passing through hills covered with argan trees. This charming trip delivers us back to Agadir in the late afternoon.
