This full-day trip from Ouarzazate is a longer version of the classic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs run, continuing past the Dades Valley to the Todra Gorge, a 300-metre-high limestone canyon squeezed down to a few car-widths at its narrowest point.
It’s the longest day trip we run from Ouarzazate, but it covers the most ground: the Valley of Roses, the Dades Valley’s kasbahs, Tinghir’s palm groves, and the sheer walls of Todra itself, all in your own private vehicle with a driver-guide.
The Todra Gorge, near Tinghir, is one of Morocco’s most photographed canyons: sheer rock walls up to 300 metres high, closing to a narrow passage that’s become popular with rock climbers from around the world. The road from Ouarzazate passes through the same Dades Valley kasbahs and rose country as the shorter Dades Gorge trip, then continues further east.
This is the longest day trip we offer from Ouarzazate, with most of it spent driving. If a single long day doesn’t appeal, ask us about splitting it into an overnight in the Dades Valley with the Todra Gorge the next morning, or combining it with our Dades Gorge day trip as part of a longer private tour.
Pickup from Ouarzazate airport or your hotel around 7:30 AM. Drive east along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, stopping in Skoura’s palm oasis and Kelaat M’Gouna, the Valley of Roses, for a tea break.
Continue through Boumalne Dades and the Dades Valley’s kasbahs, then on to Tinghir, arriving around 1:00 PM. Stop for lunch (not included) with a view over Tinghir’s palm groves from the old kasbah above town.
In the afternoon, drive into the Todra Gorge, where the canyon walls narrow to around 10 metres apart. Walk along the gorge floor and have tea with a Berber family living at its mouth before the long drive back to Ouarzazate, arriving around 7:00 PM.
