A 7 day, 6 night Merzouga wellness retreat from Marrakech with four nights in the Erg Chebbi dunes: three at our own desert camp and one in a desert hotel with a pool. Overview

This Merzouga wellness retreat gives the Sahara the time it deserves. Instead of one night in the dunes, you stay four: three nights at our own camp in Erg Chebbi and a fourth in a desert hotel with a pool. Each day follows the light, with practice at sunrise and sunset and long quiet hours in between to rest, read, walk and breathe.

The journey there and back is part of the calm. You cross the High Atlas, stop at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, spend a night in the Dades Valley, walk through the Todra Gorge and end with a night in a kasbah in the palm oasis of Skoura before returning to Marrakech.

This Merzouga wellness retreat suits couples, friends and solo travelers who want real rest, and it is also designed for yoga teachers who want to host a group in the Sahara.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech to the Dades Valley via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass

−

Your driver-guide picks you up in the morning from your riad or from Marrakech Menara Airport. Cross the High Atlas at an easy pace, with stops for mint tea and mountain views, and visit Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO listed fortified village. Arrive in the early afternoon at a quiet guesthouse in the Dades Valley, take a gentle walk through the palm groves, and stretch on the terrace as the cliffs turn red. Dinner and the night are at the guesthouse.

Day 2: Dades Valley to Merzouga via the Todra Gorge

+

Walk slowly through the Todra Gorge between rock walls up to 300 meters high, then continue east to Merzouga. In the late afternoon, ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a guided sunset meditation. Dinner is served at our own desert camp, followed by the campfire, Berber drums and a sky full of stars. The night is spent at the camp.

Day 3: Discover the Dunes and a Peaceful Picnic for Practice

+

Wake before dawn for sunrise yoga or meditation on the dunes, then enjoy a slow breakfast at the camp. Today is a day to discover the desert around you. With your guide, explore the quiet corners of Erg Chebbi at an easy pace, on foot or by camel, past high dunes, acacia trees and the tracks of desert animals. Around midday, stop in a peaceful spot in the dunes for a picnic lunch of fresh salads, bread and fruit in the shade. The afternoon is yours to stay there in silence and practice: yoga, meditation, breathing or simply lying on the warm sand. Return to the camp for a sunset sit on the dunes, dinner and a quiet night under the stars.

Day 4: Khamlia, Nomad Tea and Evening Silence

+

After sunrise practice and breakfast, take a slow walk or short drive to the village of Khamlia, where Gnawa musicians share the songs and rhythms brought to the desert centuries ago. On the way back, stop for tea with a nomad family in their tent. Lunch is at the camp, followed by free time. The evening is kept for silence: a sunset sit on the dunes, a simple dinner and stargazing. The night is at the camp.

Day 5: Rest and a Desert Hotel with a Pool

+

Enjoy a last sunrise practice on the dunes and a slow breakfast at the camp. Late in the morning, move to a desert hotel with a pool at the edge of Erg Chebbi. The afternoon is for rest: swim, sleep, or book an optional hammam and argan massage. Watch the sunset over the dunes from the terrace before dinner at the hotel.

Day 6: Merzouga to the Skoura Palm Oasis

+

Leave the desert after breakfast and drive west through Tinghir and the Dades Valley to Skoura, a quiet palm oasis dotted with old kasbahs. Arrive in the afternoon at a kasbah guesthouse among the palms, walk through the gardens of the oasis and enjoy a calm last evening with dinner at the kasbah.

Day 7: Skoura to Marrakech (End of Retreat)

+

After a slow breakfast, drive through Ouarzazate and over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass back to Marrakech, with stops along the way. You arrive in the afternoon, and we drop you at your riad or at the airport.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can yoga teachers bring their own group?

Yes, and we would love to host you. You lead the practice, and we take care of the transport, the camp, the meals and the timing of each day around your sessions. Contact us with your group size and dates for a private group offer.

Is a yoga teacher included?

No. Private travelers can follow their own practice, and we provide the mats, the rugs and quiet time at sunrise and sunset. If you want a teacher, bring your own or ask us and we will help.

Why four nights in the desert?

One night in the Sahara is beautiful but rushed. With four nights you settle into the rhythm of the dunes, sleep better, and have full days to rest without driving.

Is the desert camp your own?

Yes. We run our own camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes with no middleman, so we can shape the days around rest and practice.

Do I need yoga experience?

No. You can join the meditation, practice at your own level or simply rest. Every activity is optional.

What is the best time of year for this retreat?

March to May and late September to November. Winter days are lovely but nights at camp are cold, and summer is very hot, so we plan desert time around sunrise and sunset.
