Everything travelers usually ask us before booking a private tour in Morocco, answered by our team from the Sahara. If your question is not here, message us on WhatsApp and a real person will reply.
Booking and payment
How do I book a tour with Navigate Morocco?
Send us your dates, number of travelers and ideas on WhatsApp, by email or through our contact form. We reply within 24 hours with a free custom itinerary and price. When you are happy with it, you confirm with a 10% deposit and we send you a written confirmation. Our How booking works page explains every step.
How much is the deposit, and when do I pay the rest?
A 10% deposit confirms your booking and reserves your accommodation, camp, driver and guides. The remaining 90% is paid before or on the first day of your tour.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Bank transfer, card payment through a secure link, PayPal, and cash in euros, US dollars or Moroccan dirhams for the balance. Prices can be quoted in EUR, USD or MAD.
How quickly will you reply to my request?
Within 24 hours, and often much sooner. Every message is answered personally by our team, not by a booking robot.
Can I cancel or change my booking?
Yes. Changes are free more than 7 days before the tour, subject to availability. If you cancel more than 15 days before, you receive a full refund minus processing fees. All the details are in our Refund and Returns Policy.
Do you offer custom itineraries?
Yes, every tour is private and can be adapted. You can change the length, the route, the pace and the accommodation level, or build a completely new trip around your interests.
Our tours
Are your tours private or shared?
Our tours are private. You travel only with your own family or friends, in a private air conditioned vehicle with your own driver, and the program follows your rhythm.
What is usually included in the price?
- Private vehicle with driver for the whole tour
- Accommodation in riads, hotels and a desert camp
- The meals listed in your itinerary, usually breakfast and dinner outside the big cities
- The sunset camel ride and the activities listed
- Local guides where stated in your program
International flights, travel insurance, lunches, drinks, entrance fees, tips and optional activities are usually not included. Each quote lists exactly what is included.
Can the tour start and end in different cities?
Yes, we are very flexible. Your tour can start and end in any city in Morocco, including Marrakech, Fes, Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Ouarzazate, Agadir, Essaouira and Chefchaouen. We can pick you up at the airport, your hotel or the port, and drop you off wherever your trip continues. Browse our private tours for ideas.
How many days do I need for the Sahara?
From Marrakech, 3 days is the minimum for the dunes of Merzouga, and 4 days gives a more relaxed pace. Our guide to choosing a 3 or 4 day desert tour from Marrakech compares both.
The desert and camp
What is the desert camp like?
We use a luxury desert camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes by default, with private tents, comfortable beds and well prepared meals. A traditional standard camp is available on request. Read what a night in a Sahara desert camp is really like.
Are dinner and breakfast included at the camp?
Yes. Dinner and breakfast at the camp are included. Breakfast usually includes mint tea, orange juice, omelets, honey, cheese, cakes, olives, bread and coffee. See our guide to Sahara desert camp meals.
Is the camel ride included, and how long is it?
The sunset camel ride to the camp is included in our desert tours. It lasts up to about 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on where the camp is. More details in our camel ride in Merzouga guide.
Is there a weight limit for the camel ride?
A camel can carry up to about 100 kg, depending on its size. An adult and a young child can share one camel.
Can I pay by card in the desert?
Our desert camp accepts cards. On the road, small shops, cafes and stops usually take cash only, so carry some dirhams. Read more about cash in Morocco.
Is alcohol served at the camp?
Alcohol is rarely served at desert camps. If it matters to you, tell us before the trip and we will advise you.
Can I add quad biking or a buggy ride?
Yes, we run our own activities in Merzouga. Quad bike and buggy riders must be at least 16 years old, and dirt bike riders need a valid license. See quad biking in Merzouga.
Safety
Is Morocco safe for tourists?
Morocco welcomes millions of visitors every year, and most trips go smoothly. With a private driver and local guides, you always have someone by your side who knows the roads, the places and the customs. Read our honest guides on safety for American travelers and for solo female travelers.
Who will drive and guide us?
Our own experienced drivers and guides, many of them from the Sahara and the south of Morocco. We work only with licensed drivers and certified local guides.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical costs and the activities you plan to do.
What happens if the weather changes the plan?
In winter, snow can close the Tizi n’Tichka pass for a few hours, and heavy rain can affect gorge roads. Your driver follows the conditions and adjusts the timing or route to keep you safe and the trip on track.
Families and groups
Are your tours suitable for children?
Yes, families are very welcome. Because the tour is private, we set the pace, driving times and stops around your children. Tell us their ages and we will suggest the best route and rooms.
What group sizes do you accept?
From solo travelers and couples to families and larger groups. For student, community or creator groups, see our guide to planning a group trip to Morocco.
Do you organize student and study abroad trips?
Yes. We run dedicated student tours from Marrakech and trips for study abroad groups. Read Morocco trip while studying abroad.
Practical tips
Should I tip my driver and guide?
Tipping is not required but is appreciated in Morocco. Our guide to tipping in Morocco explains what is usual for drivers, guides and camp staff.
What should I pack for the desert?
Layers are key, because nights in the desert and the mountains are cool, even when days are warm. Bring a small overnight bag for the camp, since your main luggage stays in the vehicle. See what to wear in the Sahara desert.
When is the best time to visit Morocco?
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for most routes, and winter is great for sunny days and cold, clear nights in the desert. Compare every month in our best time to visit Morocco guide.
Do I need a visa for Morocco?
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of many countries, including the US, UK and EU, can visit without a visa for short stays. Always check the official rules for your passport before you travel. American travelers can read our Morocco visa guide for Americans.
